What 5-axis milling is used for
Five axes machine a part from five sides in one setup. That saves re-clamping and keeps positional tolerances between the sides tight. Typical parts are structural components, housings, impellers, tooling inserts and aerospace parts in titanium or nickel alloys.
What matters about the 5-axis centre
What counts is the swivel range, the largest workpiece diameter on the table and whether the machine moves in five axes simultaneously or only positions. For aerospace parts the shop’s certification matters as well, for example EN 9100.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between 3+2 and simultaneous 5-axis?
With 3+2, two axes are positioned and milling then runs in three axes. In simultaneous machining all five axes move at once, which free-form surfaces require.
Can I find shops with EN 9100 here?
You can filter the board by certificate. The information comes from the shop; ask to see the certificate before placing an order.
Is one of your machines idle next week?
List it before the week stays empty.
